Collisionally pumped hybrid soft X-ray laser in Ne-like sulphur
We describe an experiment demonstrating XUV amplification following collisional excitation in a capillary discharge plasma irradiated by a picosecond IR laser pulse. Guiding and temporally resolved transmission of the pump laser beam are also demonstrated and analysed. The short pump laser pulse heated rapidly the electrons producing amplification in the 3pS0–3sP1 transition of Ne-like sulphur ...
متن کاملDischarge-pumped soft-x-ray laser in neon-like argon
Starting with the discovery of x-ray lasers in 1984, laser-created plasmas remained for almost a decade, the only medium in which large amplification of soft-x-ray radiation could be obtained. In this paper the recent first demonstration of large soft-x-ray amplification in a discharge-created plasma column, realized utilizing a fast capillary discharge to collisionally excite the 46.9 nm trans...
متن کاملDemonstration of an all-diode-pumped soft x-ray laser.
We have demonstrated an 18.9 nm Ni-like molybdenum soft x-ray laser, pumped by a compact all-diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser. The solid-state pump laser produces 8.5 ps pulses with up to 1 J energy at 10 Hz repetition rate. This diode-pumped laser has the potential to greatly increase the repetition rate and the average power of soft x-ray lasers on a significantly smaller footprint.
متن کاملTransient collisionally excited x-ray laser in nickel-like zirconium at PHELIX laser facility
A transient collisionally pumped X-ray laser (XRL) driven by the infrared pulses from the PHELIX laser preamplifier at GSI has successfully been put into operation. Strong lasing at 22 nm has been observed in nickel-like zirconium. Experimental data from the optimization of the XRL energy output support the conclusion that inverse Bremsstrahlung plays a key role in the pumping mechanism. Laser ...
متن کاملFeasibility considerations of a soft-x-ray distributed feedback laser pumped by an x-ray free electron laser
We discuss the feasibility of a soft-x-ray distributed feedback laser (DFL) pumped by an xray free electron laser (X-FEL). The DFL under consideration is a Mg/SiC bi-layered Bragg reflector pumped by a single X-FEL bunch at 57.4 eV, stimulating the Mg L2,3 emission at 49 eV corresponding to the 3s-3d -> 2p1/2,3/2 transition. Based on a model developed by Yariv and Yeh and an extended coupled-wa...
